NRI & international

NRI and international business services

Indian accounting, tax and compliance support for people and businesses managing it from another time zone.

Distance makes Indian compliance harder than it needs to be: documents sit unsigned, deadlines pass unnoticed, and a property sale or a rental income stream raises questions nobody is available to answer. The work itself is manageable; the coordination is what fails.

We run these engagements remotely by default — scheduled updates, documents exchanged securely, and a clear list of what needs your signature and by when. Communication is written, so there is a record you can return to.

Cross-border tax involves the interaction of Indian law with the law of your country of residence, and in some cases a tax treaty. We advise on the Indian side and will tell you plainly when a question needs an advisor in the other jurisdiction.

How we work

Working with us on this

How an engagement runs at Vanesh Nadar & Co. Four stages: review of the current position, a written scope and fee, execution to an agreed calendar, then review to stop problems recurring. STEP 1 Review We look at your records, filings, registrations and any open notices, and tell you plainly where things stand. STEP 2 Scope & fees A written scope: deliverables, timelines, what we need from you and the fee — agreed before any work starts. STEP 3 Execute Work carried out to an agreed calendar, with a named point of contact and documented handovers. STEP 4 Review & improve Recurring issues are traced back to the process that caused them, so the same problem does not return next quarter.

Every engagement runs through the same four stages. Nothing begins until the scope and the fee are agreed in writing, and the fourth stage exists so that a problem found this quarter does not simply reappear in the next one.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do NRIs have to file an income tax return in India?

It depends on whether you have income arising in India and whether it exceeds the applicable threshold, and on your residential status for that year. Rental income, capital gains and certain interest income commonly create a filing obligation. Share your income details and we will confirm your position.

Can everything be handled without me travelling to India?

In most cases yes. Filings are electronic, documents can be exchanged securely, and where physical signature or representation is required we will tell you in advance and suggest the alternatives available, such as a power of attorney where appropriate.

How does a tax treaty affect my Indian tax?

A treaty between India and your country of residence may affect which country taxes an income stream and at what rate, and may allow credit for tax paid. Applying it correctly requires documentation such as a tax residency certificate. We advise on the Indian side and coordinate with your local advisor.

We are a foreign company setting up in India. Where do we start?

With the structure — subsidiary, branch or liaison arrangement each carry different compliance and tax consequences. After that: registrations, accounting setup, and a compliance calendar aligned to your group reporting timetable.
