Desktop software is unfashionable and still frequently the right answer. High-volume data entry is faster with keyboard-driven desktop interfaces. Some processes depend on local hardware — scanners, printers, weighing systems. Some operations cannot stop when the internet does.

We also take on modernisation work: businesses running an internal application built years ago by someone no longer available, where the software still works but nobody can safely change it. That usually starts with understanding the existing data and business rules before anything is rewritten.

Every engagement runs through the same four stages. Nothing begins until the scope and the fee are agreed in writing, and the fourth stage exists so that a problem found this quarter does not simply reappear in the next one.

Frequently asked questions

Is desktop software still a sensible choice?

For some work, yes — high-volume entry, local hardware dependence, or operations that must continue without connectivity. For anything needing multi-location access or frequent change, a web application is usually the better long-term choice, and we will say so.

Can you take over software built by someone else?

Often. It starts with an assessment of the code, the database and the business rules involved. Where source code is unavailable, the realistic path is generally a rebuild informed by the existing data — we will tell you which situation you are in before you commit.

Will our existing data carry over?

That is normally the central part of the project. We plan the migration, run it into a test environment, validate record counts and balances against the old system, and only then go live.

How is it kept updated?

Through an agreed update mechanism and a maintenance arrangement covering fixes, changes and periodic review. Desktop deployments need a deliberate update plan, so we set that up at handover.
